about

A thesis song built around a video piece by Félix González-Torres titled “Jeff” (1979). González-Torres's work cuts and shuffles an interview of Jeff, a queer man who rethinks his move to New York and decision to put his career over himself. I reworked the interview to put it back in order.

It is likely this "Jeff" interviewed here was the same "Jeff" Gonzáles-Torres mentions frequently in his writing as both a dear friend, possible ex-lover, and the man who took care of Gonzáles-Torres's dying parter, Ross, until his death from AIDS in 1991. Jeff subsequently died of AIDS in 1992, and Gonzáles-Torres died of AIDS in 1996.
